Out of Frame is a grassroots community art project that reclaims public space through collective artistic interventions. Centred in two Amman neighbourhoods home to the Sudanese and Filipino communities, the project responds to their marginalisation and limited visibility in the city’s cultural and urban fabric.
Through exchange, workshops, and collaborative events, the project worked with community members to imagine new ways of belonging in the city. It unfolded in phases: playful explorations that disrupted social boundaries, community-led activities rooted in collective care, and public interventions like film screenings and street art. A key outcome was a collective mural and an alternative map of the neighbourhoods, giving voice to stories often overlooked in Amman’s narratives.
At its heart, Out of Frame reclaims space and redefines identity through art. By shifting ownership of creative practice to community members themselves, it challenges exclusion, fosters solidarity, and reimagines the city as a place shaped by all who live in it.
