Masahit Al-Hayy emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic out of a frustration with Amman’s limited public realm; which became more apparent when nearly all private spaces closed during the pandemic. It started as an exploration into public space use patterns, and what started as conversations with friends and neighbours shaped the initiative’s simple idea: every neighborhood should have a shared, inclusive space that reflects and responds to its community’s needs.
Focusing primarily on underserved urban areas, Masahit Al-Hayy launched its first project in Russeifeh. The initiative aims to activate public land through four core pillars: 1. Social Responsibility, cultivating a sense of civic duty and social awareness. 2. Recreational Program, offering physical, cultural, and social leisure spaces. 3. Vocational Training, providing hands-on and embedded learning opportunities. 4. Income-Generating Program, supporting community livelihoods via micro-businesses such as kiosks or farmers’ markets. Its key principles emphasize a socio-spatial approach, localized resources, circular economy practices, community governance, and collaboration.
