Seven Hills began in 2014 out of a love for skateboarding, growing into a safe, inclusive space for skateboarders and the wider Amman community. It started out of a need to reclaim urban space for skateboarders, who are often seen as a nuisance, developing through an internationally crowdfunded project, with Greater Amman Municipality providing a public park for its construction.
From its onset, the park built a strong community, with neighbouring schoolboys, and local residents joined in building it, or simply observing it materialise. Since its opening, Seven Hills has governed the park with inclusive values; offering consistent programming, distributing skateboards, and giving a variety of classes including girl-only classes, youth to youth classes, and classes for the Sudanese community, all of which strengthened the community and sense of ownership around the park. Registered as an organisation in 2019, Seven Hills continue to operate the park, and run programmes across Jordan.
